Eden by Jeanne Blasberg
Where to begin? I am still struggling with writing a review that adequately expresses how much I loved this book without giving away any spoilers. Eden by Jeanne Blasberg is a gorgeously written story that follows the women of the Meister family through four generations and is an insightful and often times heartbreaking commentary about the relationships between mothers and daughters. This book also examines society’s attitude towards women and their roles throughout the years-- from the times when it was completely acceptable for a husband to have his wife committed because she seemed stressed or cried a lot, to present day where a woman can raise a child on her own with out a partner, if she so chooses. This was absolutely a 5 star read for me. It tugged at my heart strings and was just so beautifully done. To know that this is a debut novel is mindblowing and I can’t wait to read what Jeanne writes next. Throw this book in your bag while you are packing for that weekend getaway, find a quiet spot somewhere to settle in and walk in to the world that is Eden.
