Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan - TLC Blog Tour
“I searched her sweet face before I asked, “Do you ever feel that there is more, that life holds so much more, and somehow we’re missing it? I want to be part of the bigger world, make a difference, see it and feel it, engage in it. Don’t you feel that longing inside you?”
I must confess I knew almost nothing at all about the wife of famed author C.S. Lewis, so I was immediately intrigued when TLC Book Tours reached out to me about reviewing this book. Within the pages of Callahan’s meticulously researched novel, I discovered Joy Davidman to be an incredibly complex, intelligent woman who strained against the conventions that society and her abusive husband placed upon her. Through out the book Joy wrestles with her faith, with determining what her purpose in life is and ultimately with the deep love that she feels for Lewis. I enjoyed reading the letters that went back and forth between Lewis and Joy but was surprised that the “romance” aspect of the book only consisted of the last few pages.
If you are a fan of C.S. Lewis, theological debate and historical fiction, then this is a novel you don’t want to miss. Many thanks to Thomas Nelson for providing a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review. 3.5 stars.
